This book gave me the willies. At the same time this book wasn’t scary so much as creepy.
Jessica gets washed up on this island in the middle of the ocean…okay not that far off but a good 400 miles from the nearest civilian. She encounters this lone man -Richard or rather Dick -who teaches her her how to live off the land. After about two months she finally hears the truth about this island. And that is where it gets creepy.
Just image a lone women on a tiny island with about 5 serial murderers who haven’t seen a women in years! Yea recipe for disaster. Plus *whispered* I think the island is alive!! *end of whisper* I know right! I think the island takes these convicts, the blackness of their hearts and just turns them insane. Others like Jessica and Richard, who are good souls at best, get tangled up in the mess and go through h*ll but still manage to survive the insanity.
Overall if you want a not-so-scary-but-still-creep-you-out book to read in the dark this is one of those that you should read :)
As far as a romantic young adult book I think it is great. This is something I would have liked to read to read as a teenage -the romance without intimacy, the chemistry between two people, and the adventure they have.
I found the storyline or rather the mystery of the war to be a bit confusing. The Author really doesn’t go into great details on the war, or the tribes, or even the world around them ; she just seems to focus on the couple. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it’s kinda refreshing not to have to worry about details around you and just focus on the couple and their love story.
The couple is well developed. I don’t normally do “love at first sight” but this works for me because they are both broken. They are a couple whose whole world and family seem to be stacked against them. They fight, they talk, and through it all they develop a friendship that grow to into love.
Overall an okay book to read when you want something to relax with :)
I fell in love!! I fell in love with the characters and the book!! Every now and then a book comes along were I get all emotional -sadness, anger, joy in the love they found, anxiety in what will happen next.
Now the title may throw you off but rather think “In possession of a Demon”.
Our main characters are Analia the runaway salve, and Sebastian, the captain who’s ship she stowed away on. This book is definitely science fiction romance. There are different species and figuring out who Analia is is all part of the mystery. She has little memory of who she is and is constantly afraid of her old master finding her and what would happen if Sebastian finds out about her gift.
Sebastian is a demon. Complete with horns and a beast – like temper. You never know where you stand with him, one minute he is a blank wall with no emotion , the next he is trying to stifle the sexual energy flowing around those two. Hence the Title of this book. The demon has possessed her/made her his. He has found his life long mate, and has wooed her till he has won her!
I thought the story dragged out a bit. Then again I did read this book in two days ,I was so glued to the story. Then it just ups and finishes on me. :( Talk about your cliffhanger ending.
Anyway, I thought this was a wonderful piece of romance fluff, where if you are in the mood for fantasy, deep space, and romance, then this is the book for you!
*I was able to get this book for free in exchange for an honest review*
When I think of Ghost stories, I usually think of hauntings, or possessions. I think scary, terrifying or even sometimes unrealistic. This book put a new spin on the whole Ghost – haunting – you story.
We have a boy ,Jeff, with a very special gift. That gift takes him on a 2 day journey with what started out as horrifying nightmares. He shares these nightmares with his neighbor, African American girl named Carla. She too has a special gift. Her other neighbour, Lobo, has helped her with her special gifts, so the two trot over to see Lobo only to find themselves on a terrifying yet accelerating adventure.
This adventure focuses around Lobo’s house and the cemetery. It focuses on the fact that Jeff’s ancestor is trying to contact him to get Jeff to help him. We don’t know if this Ghost is friendly or malicious but we do know that it is putting Jeff’s life in danger.
I liked the fact that we see the Ghost, not as a devil or spiritual thing, but as a real human who happened to be caught in the afterlife. The Ghost seeks out Jeff to help him find rest and peace in the afterlife.
I would definitely let my teens read this book. It is clean, has little swearing, yet has a few small graphic scenes that might scare the Bajibers out of ya :)
Overall a great book that I was happy to read in exchange for an honest review.
Another great book by Kelley Armstrong in the “Women of the Otherworld” series.
This one follows Hope Adams, a chaos demon. Herself and her on-again/off-again boyfriend/friend Karl (a werewolf) owe Benicio Cortez a favour. In this book he calls on that favour by sending her to infiltrate a gang that might be raising against the Carbel group in Miami. Of course Karl gets wind of it and off he goes to help Hope. Together, along with Paige and Lucas, they solve the crimes. What crimes? Those that involve stealing, thievery, murder, and a great who-dun-it plot twist.
Now what is a chaos demon? According to Kelley it is “a human fathered by a demon. And she’s inherited not only a gift for seeing the past but a hunger for chaos-along with a talent for finding it wherever she can.” Hope herself describes it as “a cocktail more potent than anything I ever dreamed of. I drank it in, oblivious to my surroundings. I couldn’t remember how I’d gotten here.” pg225 On another page (that I can’t find :) )she describes the chaos as a high. So basically a chaos demon is one who “drinks” the energies of anything remotely chaotic -murder, rage, pain -and can sometimes see what happened even after the fact.
I didn’t like the story line too much, I guess I felt Hope wasn’t “worthy” enough for a story. But you know what? Us girls got to stick together no matter come what may and Kelley can write a beautiful, strong story. I fell in love all over again with this talented author!
I was browsing Amazon one day and came across this book. So I ordered it. Then I read it and found a new favorite book.
Each chapter is written from a different perspective form one of the main characters -Antonia, Ben, Calli, Martin, Deputy Sheriff Louis. With most books this can be confusing or hard to follow but Heather Gudenkauf pieces it together quite wonderfully.
She immerses the reader into the lives of these two families. She combines the past and present to give us a complete picture of the struggles, heartbreaks, and love.
Normally after so many books in a series, I start to lose interest. The characters drag on or there is nothing to hold your attention or I just lose interest period. But with Kelley Armstrong’s “Women of the Otherworld” series, I am still so much into it.
No Humans Involved is #7 in the series. This one features Jamie and Jeremy. A mystery and love story all wrapped up in one book. Can you saw yummy!! :D haha
Jamie is doing a TV shot with two other “spiritualists”. In the garden in the back of the house she’s staying at she comes across child ghost. Ghosts that can neither talk to her or really communicate with her. That starts her off an adventure/mystery as to why she can’t connect with these ghosts.
She enlists Jeremy to help along with Eve and the stage is set for a great read! She encounters a group of humans that are trying to harness magic. These are dangerous humans that will stop at nothing to be magical. In the end all the bad guys end up with heir due reward, Jamie frees the children ghosts and Eve and Kristoff see them over to the otherside.
One last note: Jamie is such a tease to Jeremy. She wants to make sure their relationship is/will be going somewhere before they get intimate. However in the meantime she teases Jeremy mercilessly. She lets him see her naked but he can’t touch :O what a bad girl! A love story to believe in. **sigh** Jamie is so girly yet so sure of herself. Jeremy is an Alfa wolf and well I don’t think I can say much more. Together they make a great couple and compliment each other quite well.
