Industrial Magic – Review

Kelley Armstrong does it again! She has written a wonderful, intriguing emotional book. I felt this one a bit more dialogue for my taste but the magic was still there. 🙂

Someone is murdering the teenage offspring of the underworld’s most influential Cabals – a circle of families that makes the mob look like amateurs. And none is more powerful than the Cortez Cabal, a faction Paige is intimately acquainted with. Lucas Cortez, the rebel son and unwilling heir, is none other than her boyfriend. But love isn’t blind, and Paige has her eyes wide open as she is drawn into a hunt for an unnatural-born killer. Pitted against shamans, demons, and goons, it’s a battle chilling enough to make a wild young woman grow up in a hurry. If she gets the chance.

We are back with Paige and Lucas. We also meet Jaime, a necromancer (a celeb  who Savannah adores). Closer to the end of the book the gang is all there – the werewolves – Elena, Clay, Jeremy; The vamps -Cassandra and Aaron; and Paige’s friend’s -Robert, and Adam!  I think I would love to live in a world of supernaturals. I would love to meet these people. 🙂

We also get to meet Lucas’ family. All of the good, the bad, and the ugly. I really liked Benicio. I found him very sweet and a doting father to Lucas. I think that made it harder for Lucas because he  has this great dad who only wants the best for him but is burdened with the family business.  It does mention in the book that Lucas would like a relationship with his dad but unfortunately anytime Lucas tries to spend time his dad basically tries to rope him into the whole family business.

As with most of Kelley Armstrong’s books she starts off slow. More dialogue then action. She tries to get the setting and a who-done-it type of feel. Then towards the later half of the book she brings it all together. I am also not too sure how I feel about the romance. Sometimes she eludes to s*x -nothing to describe but you know they are going to do it, but then others she just starts to describe it only to leave the rest to your imagination. I kinda wished she would or one or the other. Give us full detail or give us nothing but imagination.

SPOILER ALERT: Paige and Lucas are investigating a serial murder. They found an accomplice and Paige just about dies -or gets very, very hurt. The accomplice get tried in a cabal trial and executed right away. Which sucks for Paige and Lucas because now that is a dead end. However a “spirit or spook, tries to get in touch with Jaime and together they figure out that they need to contact Cassandra. So now we have all 4 working together. Eventually they need a body guard so that’s where the werewolves come into play. It all boiled down to a very vengeful vampire.  Which Benicio kills in the end!! So cool. Something happened  to Lucas that made me go “What!!!”  I was about to die. Then Kelley Armstrong pulls a miracle and I could breathe again!

This is the fourth book in the series and still going strong. So many times I have stopped a book series cause of some reason or another. Seeing as how I am in the middle of a challenge though, I am glad she writes a really good book! Can’t wait for the next one.
